Pad Man box office predictions: Akshay Kumar’s film to open around Rs 13 crore on its first day

Akshay Kumar‘s Pad Man has garnered a decent buzz among the audience thanks to its unconventional storyline. The film was earlier scheduled to release on January 25, during the Republic Day weekend, but to avoid a clash with Padmaavat, on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s request, Akshay Kumar shifted the film’s release date to February 9. The film will enjoy a solo release as Aiyaary has been postponed by a week and will now release on Feb 16.

As per trade expert, Amul Mohan – editor of Super Cinema, Pad Man is expected to earn around Rs 13 crore on its opening day. The collections are in the same range as his previous films, Jolly LLB 2 and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Since Pad Man has been made in a controlled budget, we can expect the social drama to recover its investment through its theatrical run. Despite having the star-power of Akshay Kumar, Pad Man will depend on a strong word-of-mouth publicity and if it manages to impress the audience, Pad Man will become the sixth consecutive Rs 100 crore film of Akki after Airlift, Housefull 3, Rustom, Jolly LLB 2 and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Talking about Pad Man, the film is based on the life of Tamil Nadu-based social activist, Arunachalam Muruganantham. Akshay Kumar portrays the central role in the film, who finds a way to make cheap, affordable sanitary napkins for the women in his village. It also features Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in key roles and is directed by R. Balki, who has previously helmed movies like Ki And Ka, Shamitabh, Paa and Cheeni Kum. Well, this is not the first time when the actor has worked on a project that highlights social issues. Akshay Kumar’s last film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, was a satirical drama which dealt with the problem of sanitation in rural regions. Pad Man is co-produced by Akshay’s wife Twinkle Khanna under her banner Mrs Funnybones Movies.
