Raid becomes fifth highest opening weekend grosser of Ajay Devgn after Golmaal Again and Singham Returns

Ajay Devgn starrer Raid has done impressive business in its first weekend at the box office. The period crime-thriller showed substantial growth on Saturday and Sunday and raked in Rs 41.01 crore in its first three days. With these collections, Raid has become the fifth highest opening weekend grosser of Ajay Devgn of all time. Despite not being a commercial masala entertainer, Raid worked at the ticket window because of Ajay Devgn’s stardom and engaging content.

Here’s the list of Ajay Devgn’s top opening weekend grossers:

Golmaal Again – Rs 87.60 crore

Singham Returns – Rs 77.69 crore

Baadshaho – Rs 43.30 crore

Bol Bachchan – Rs 43.10 crore

Raid – Rs 41.01 crore

By looking at the current trend, we are expecting the film to remain rock-steady in the weekdays. Raid got a wide release of 3400 screens nationwide. Apart from Ajay Devgn, the film also features Ileana D’Cruz and Saurabh Shukla in pivotal roles. The film is directed by Rajkumar Gupta, who previously helmed films like Aamir, No One Killed Jessica and Ghanchakkar. It is produced under the banners of Panorama Studios and T-Series. Raid has also become the second highest opening weekend grosser of the year after Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. It has beaten Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Pad Man, Aiyaary and Pari to achieve this feat at the ticket window. Raid marks the second collaboration between Ajay and Ileana after Baadshaho. The film is inspired by the real Income-Tax raids which happened in 1980s. Raid garnered praises for its nail-biting screenplay and amazing star performances.
